No baking soda, no problem

Last night, I was wanting to bake some chocolate chip cookies but sleep got the best of me. Tonight, I was needing them. I got off the couch to make some after watching last nights The Bachelor and was browsing some recipes. 9 out of 10 recipes that I looked at tonight had baking soda in the list of ingredients. I don't have any baking soda at the moment and was disappointed. I sat down and had a piece of cherry pie instead. The cherry pie was good but not a fix for some warm, home-made chocolate chip cookies. Shortly after, I googled "substitute for baking soda" and luckily something popped up. Something along the lines of using two to three times the amount of baking soda needed but using baking powder. I didn't know how well this would work but I got back up to try. I looked back through a cookbook and I came across a recipe that didn't even call for baking soda but for baking powder! I am glad I didn't have to do some sort of substitution after all. I had already glanced at this recipe and saw the baking part and assumed it was soda but it was powder! Yay! And let me just say, these cookies turned out splendid. The dough is a little different tasting than my average chocolate chip, I would say it is more similar to sugar cookie but with less sugar. Ha! Hard to explain. My sister gave a recipe book that her ward created a while ago. I think this is mostly a Utah thing but I've seen it a few times outside of there. Anyways, I followed it completely and never used a blender! I even separated the dry mix from the wet one. Not sure how much of a difference it really makes but the batter tasted great anyways. I had to bake them the full 12 minutes btw! Here are some pics along the way.
